Nat Geo launches Telugu feed

MUMBAI: After having experimented with regional language blocks on general entertainment channels, National Geographic Channel (NGC) has launched its Telugu feed to expand its base in this large television viewing market.

NGC has roped in Tollywood actor Naga Chaitanya as the brand ambassador as he launched the channel in Hyderabad late Wednesday.
With a tagline 'Live Curious', NGC is currently available in Hindi and English.
National Geographic Network & Fox International Channels MD Keerthan Adyanthaya says, "We are excited to reach out to a wider Indian audience. The channel will give our viewers a flavour of compelling stories in their native language, aided by stunning visuals and credibility that people have come to expect from the NGC. It reinforces our commitment to offer our viewers a new way to look at the world - inviting them to Live Curious: learn and explore constantly about science, technology, history, culture, nature and wildlife."

The Telugu channel will be available along with Hindi and English through distribution affiliates and cable network operators. It will air popular programmes like Jailed Abroad, Air Crash Investigations and NGC specials like Strange Days on Planet Earth among others. The best of NGC specials, events and signature series will now also be available on the Telugu channel.
In April, NGC had entered into a content syndication deal with Star Jupiter for a one-hour slot of NGC dubbed content on the Kannada channel Suvarna and Telugu channel Sitara.
Launched in 1998, NGC programming covers adventure and exploration, natural history, science, wildlife and people of the world. It is currently distributed by Star Den distribution bouquet to over 45 million homes in India. It claims over 54 million viewers a month on an average.
