Kids’ reality show banned in Andhra

HYDERABAD, JUNE 12
Andhra Pradesh Human Rights Commission today banned with immediate effect telecast of ‘ata five (play-5 series)’, the child reality show telecast by ZEE TV, saying such shows violated the rights of children.
In its direction, Commission Chairman, Justice B Subhashan Reddy directed Hyderabad City Police Commissioner A K Khan to also look into similar reality shows on other entertainment and news television channels and take appropriate action to prohibit such telecast which were ‘’indecent and obscene and violated the inalienable right of the child.’’
The Commission asked the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner to report by June 14 the action taken report and the status of such reality shows on the television.
The Commission also fixed July 3 for public hearing and would issue notices to the print and electronic media for a wider discussion before taking further action.
Justice Reddy said Human Rights activists and NGOs involved in child welfare too would also participate in the public hearing.
The Commission, Justice Reddy said was also looking into obscene advertisements and cited few of them during the Indian Premier League Cricket Tourney and the World Cup T-20 Cricket Championship.
