Hyderabad, Oct. 20

Discovery Channel, the flagship network of Discovery Communications, on Wednesday announced the launch of its new Telugu feed targeting viewers in Andhra Pradesh, barely eight months since it launched the Tamil version.

The Telugu feed is now available from 6 p.m. till midnight every day, with all programmes and their airing schedule remaining the same as the English, Hindi and Tamil feeds.

Mr Rajiv Bakshi, Vice-President (Marketing) for India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said the channel will launch 24-hour Telugu feed from January. After the launch of the Tamil feed, Discovery Channel moved up 27 positions, currently ranking 18 {+t} {+h} in Tamil Nadu, he told presspersons here.

Discovery's bouquet of offerings include Animal Planet and Travel Living, besides the recent launches—Discovery Turbo, Discovery Science and Discovery HD.

Discovery, with its non-fiction entertainment, reaches over 53 million subscribers in India; it launched the 24-hour parallel feed in 1998.

Mr Bakshi said the channel was in the process of launching new programmes to coincide with the launch of the Telugu feed.

These include a 12-part ‘Worst Case Scenario' based on survival from life-threatening situations; ‘Speed of Life' specialising in high speed photography to capture the life of animals and insects; and ‘I'M Alive' based on how victims of real-life animal attacks managed to beat the odds.
