BANGALORE: The Sun Network's Telugu music television offering Gemini Music is all set to enter the reality format. It will begin airing ‘Santoor Miss Perfect Vizag’ (MP-V) twice a week at the 8 pm slot on Mondays and Tuesdays starting 22 November.
Eight episodes of MP-V will be aired over a four-week period.
Sun Network Channels – Telugu Cluster Business Head Sanjay Reddy says, “Why should reality TV be restricted to GEC and why not other genres, hence we started with it with the Music genre targeting youth. Later we will move to comedy genre. This will start a trend among niche channels giving opportunity to much talent which otherwise goes unnoticed”.
On the success of MP-V, Gemini Music plans to replicate the format in other major towns of Andhra Pradesh to culminate with Miss Perfect Andhra Pradesh where the winners from each of the centers will be pitted against each other.
Gemini Music claims that unlike other competitions where the contestants are singularly judged on their looks, the MP-V search went beyond looks while judging the contestant's knowledge of art, culinary skills, knowledge of tradition, and social responsibility.
The MP-V contestants had to undergo three phases during the show - the first phase involved sceening all the applicants from which 8 participants were shortlisted. In the second phase these 8 contestants were put through rounds of makeover to personality shaping rounds. The third phase involved the contestants demonstrating their skills in front of select audience that included prominent Telugu film
personalities like model and female actor Tapsee Pannu, Hollywood female actor Lakshmi Manchu and theater guru Satyanand.
Santoor, the flagship sandalwood soap brand of Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting (WCCL), partnered with the first outing at Visakhapatnam (Vizag). Among the associate sponsors is Chennai based Pothys Silks.
