Nandi awards function postponed yet again

HYDERABAD: The prestigious Nandi film awards function seems to have got caught in the Telangana imbroglio this time round. The function to give away the awards for the year 2009 appears to be jinxed as it was postponed two times in quick succession. Officials are now even wary of fixing another date.

With the developments on the Telangana front hotting up and chief minister Kiran Reddy preoccupied with various problems dogging his government, it appears that the function will get delayed further. When he attended the Nandi awards ceremony at Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam in March last year, former chief minister K Rosaiah had said that it would be ideal to organise the function the very year they are announced.

Officials of the A P State Film, TV, and Theatre Development Corporation, in a bid to bring back the schedule immediately fixed a date for the function for the 2009 awards. The awards were announced in 2010 and the function was supposed to be organised the very year. In the aftermath of this, the political developments that followed after Rosaiah's decision to step down as chief minister resulted in the function getting postponed. Subsequently, another date was fixed but the state government decided to officially postpone it because of the floods in the state after Kiran Kumar Reddy took over as chief minister.

A third date is to be fixed for the ceremony but the CM's preoccupation with the affairs of the state is giving little scope for the officials even to broach the subject with him. The Nandi awards for the year 2008 were presented on March 17, 2009 by Rosaiah. The awards for the year 2009 were announced on October 7, 2010. Officials said the awards would be given away during the first week of November.

However, this did not materialise and instead the date was fixed for Nov 13. Subsequently, the function was slated to be held on Dec 12, 2010 and even this did not take place.
